The upstream of the nitrocellulose industry chain are mainly refined cotton, nitric acid and alcohol, and the downstream main application fields are propellants, nitro paints, inks, celluloid products, adhesives, leather oil, nail polish and other fields.
The main raw materials of nitrcellulose are refined cotton, nitric acid, alcohol, etc. The development of refined cotton in China has experienced more than half a century. Xinjiang, Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu and other places continue to build refined cotton projects, and the industry capacity has gradually expanded, providing sufficient raw materials for the production of nitrocellulose.
China's refined cotton production in 2020 will be about 439,000 tons. The production of nitric acid was 2.05 million tons, and the production of fermented alcohol was 9.243 million liters.
China’s nitrocellulose has mainly export to United States and Vietnam,the two countries accounted for more than half of the domestic nitrocellulose export.Data show that,in 2022,china’s nitrocellulose export to United States and Vietnam were 6100 tons and 5900 tons,accounting for 25.5% and 24.8% of national nitrocellulose export.France, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia are accounting for 8.3%, 5.2% and 4.1% respectively.
In term of the compare to import and export of nitrocellulose, China’s nitrocellulose export scale is much larger than import scale. The import of nitrocellulose is about hundreds of tons, but the export is about 20,000 tons. Specially, in 2021, the international demand increase and the export increased significantly, reaching the peak 28,600 tons in recent year. However, due to the COVID-19 in 2022,the demand dropped to 23,900 tons.In term of import, the import of nitrocellulose was 186.54 tons in 2021 and 80.77 tons in 2022.
According to the statistic, as of the first three quarters of 2021, China's nitrocellulose import amount was 554,300 US dollars, an increase of 22.25%, and the export amount was 47.129 million US dollars, an increase of 53.42%.
